Screen with cinematic proportions. Fast charging. NFC. Separate audio output.

A smartphone of the middle price segment with an “extended” base, which was done for the sake of embedding a large-format screen (6.5" diagonally) with a cinematic aspect ratio of 21:9 into the front panel of the gadget. The display of the device is devoid of side and bottom frames, and the “eye” of an 8 MP selfie camera is peeping at the user from under the brows. Taking into account the non-standard screen proportions, the image is broadcast on it in a stretched resolution of 2520x1080 pixels.

The Sony Xperia 10 Plus uses the Snapdragon 636 workhorse chipset. The RAM is provided from 4 to 6 GB, and the internal drive has a capacity of 64 GB (the memory can be expanded via microSD cards). Traditionally, the strong point of Sony smartphones is mobile photography. For the benefit of obtaining high-quality images, a bunch of 12 MP main photo module and 8 MP telephoto lens are working, armed with a phase autofocus system. An NFC chip and a side fingerprint scanner are considered to be integral attributes of a strong middle peasant. The smartphone also supports accelerated "refueling" of 3000 mAh battery tanks via the USB-C port.

Why do smartphones start to slow down and what amount of RAM is now considered optimal?Let's explore the reasons for the slowdown and the optimal amount of RAM for smartphones

Smartphone for movie lovers

Thinking about a new design concept, Sony decided to go with an unusual, but rather obvious side. The fact is that smartphone screens have stretched out in recent years, but when watching a video, there is still a lot of unused area in the form of stripes above and below. Therefore, Sony decided to release a smartphone with an elongated screen (proportions of 21:9 instead of 19.5:9), which the Japanese called "cinematic".

Fancy 21:9 display

The Xperia 10 Plus uses a 6.5-inch IPS screen with FullHD resolution as a screen matrix. It is very bright (up to 500 cd/m²) and quite juicy, although the factory calibration is somewhat cold. Watching videos on Youtube or your favorite TV shows with such proportions is really more convenient, since the video is practically not cropped. It turns out a kind of IMAX in miniature.

Appearance in the style of Sony

At the same time, the smartphone has rather large frames at the top and bottom, like all Sony smartphones. Apparently, the company is not ready to abandon this chip for the sake of fashion, and do not want to lose their identity. Because of this, the smartphone turned out to be elongated (almost 17 cm high), which makes me want to call it Uncle Styopa. But they could just make the frames at the top and bottom a little thinner. Therefore, we are not even talking about one-handed control here. But there are no cutouts in the screen.

Pleasant to the touch

The case is completely plastic, no glass, ceramics and metal. However, it is pleasant to the touch and can be unraveled only by subjective sensation. Due to the thick frames, the engineers did not have to hide the cameras somewhere, so they are located as usual. The cameras are decent (main dual + 8 MP front camera), but without any zest or interesting chips. Taking pictures, okay.

Snapdragon 636

As the driving force, the novelty from Sony uses the Snapdragon 636 chipset, Adreno 508 GPU, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. To be honest, in a smartphone for $400 I would like to see a more performant chipset of the Snapdragon 712 caliber. The younger Snapdragon 636 completely takes out the system and games, but it does not have a margin of safety, and demanding toys can slow down and sag in FPS.

A thousand little things

But Sony did not save on trifles, equipping the Xperia 10 Plus with an almost flagship set of USB-C (plus a separate headphone output), an NFC module, a fingerprint scanner and fast charging. In general, like all Sony smartphones of recent years, the Xperia 10 Plus has its own identity, but it is far from perfect. Therefore, the calculation is primarily for loyal fans of the brand and fans of watching videos on a smartphone.
