Far from the most expensive and at the same time very productive SSD drive released in 2024 from MSI. It is a member of the MSI Spatial family, in which the Taiwanese manufacturer produces modern solid-state drives for gamers with an attractive price-quality ratio. Designed for budget-conscious gamers and casual users looking for an affordable option with support for the high-speed PCI-E 4.0 interface.

MSI SPATIUM M482 is built on 3D TLC NAND flash memory and Phison E27T controller with support for DPC, RAID ECC, TCG Opal technologies and a maximum read speed of up to 7300. It also processes small 4K files with an average speed of around 1000 thousand IOPS, which is a more than decent result even by the standards of professional SSD drives. Therefore, the manufacturer positions it as an inexpensive working solution that will help speed up work with projects in Premiere Pro, Blender, Bitwig or Resolve.

Like most of its relatives, the MSI SPATIUM M482 is designed in a compact M.2 2280 form factor, making it suitable for use even in laptops with thin bodies. The official warranty for the drive is 5 years; in addition, it claims a solid MTBF and a high guaranteed write resource of 1200 TB. It is worth noting that in addition to the 2000 GB version, you can find a slightly simpler and more affordable alternative with 1000 GB of memory on sale.

Inexpensive SSD with PCI-E 4.0 and maximum speed of 7300 MB/s

The MSI SPATIUM M482 2TB SSD is a high-performance solid state drive designed for users who need maximum read and write speeds. It is designed for gamers, professional developers and video editors who are faced with processing large amounts of data in a short time. SPATIUM M482 uses the PCI-E 4.0 interface, which allows you to achieve high data transfer rates that significantly exceed the capabilities of the previous generation of interfaces.

A drive based on the successful Phison E27T controller

The model is built on a combination of 3D NAND flash memory and a Phison E27T controller. This is a mid-range quad-channel controller with support for LDPC (5th generation Phison), RAID ECC, TCG Opal and 256-bit encryption. It provides linear read and write speeds of 7300 and 6400 MB/s, which is 10 times faster than classic SATA3 SSDs and 2–3 times faster than previous generation NVMe drives on the PCI-E 3.0 bus.

Suitable for more than just gaming

MSI SPATIUM M482 is an excellent gaming drive with high linear speeds and solid IOPS performance (950 thousand write, 1000 thousand read). It will perform equally well in gaming and work scenarios. For comparison, most gaming SSDs a la WD Black 770 and Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 IOPS are in the region of 500-600 thousand, and figures above 1000 are usually found in professional SSDs such as the Samsung 990 PRO and Crucial T500. Considering that this is one of the most affordable 2 TB models with a PCI-E 4.0 interface, it will be difficult to find something more interesting in this price range. Especially considering the high TBW of around 1200 TB and the 5-year warranty.
