The portable SSD MSI DATAMAG S78 represents a new generation of external drives, aimed at users who value not only speed and reliability but also everyday convenience. This is MSI's first model with a magnetic mount, allowing the drive to be easily attached to metal surfaces or hung on a carabiner. The SSD operates under the control of the Phison PS2251-U18 controller, uses modern 3D NAND memory, and connects to PCs, laptops, and mobile devices via the USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface.

The drive offers quite high read (up to 1600 MB/s) and write speeds (up to 1500 MB/s), making it suitable for quick work with photo and video content arrays, including professional formats like Apple ProRes with direct recording from iPhone 16/15 Pro (Max). The speed is something of a middle ground between classic 2.5-inch SSDs and NVMe models supporting PCI-E 3.0. The MSI DATAMAG S78 is compatible with a wide range of devices: from laptops and PCs to smartphones, gaming consoles, and cameras supporting USB C.

The device comes packaged with two cables: USB C – USB C and USB C – USB A, and the drive officially supports video recording in the ProRes format on iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro (Max). The body is made from aluminum alloy with high thermal conductivity, which prevents the drive from overheating even during prolonged transfers of large data volumes. Its compact dimensions (66x66x3 mm) and light weight (81 grams) make it significantly easier to carry the drive. In addition to the 1 TB version, it is also available in 1, 2, and 4 TB versions.
