It features ultra-high resolution — 3840x2160 (16:9), extended colour gamut (90% DCI P3) and high-quality factory calibration, which allows you to use this model for professional work with graphics and photo / video processing.

It will be useful in the process of software development and designing complex engineering solutions in CAD/CAE systems. Easily cope with any office work. The manufacturer is positioned as a multi-purpose monitor for entry-level workstations and home use. Its screen is based on a full-fledged 10-bit VA-matrix, which has wide viewing angles and is capable of displaying over a billion colours and subtle colour shades.

Thanks to its high resolution, it guarantees excellent image detail (140 ppi) for a smooth image without signs of pixelation and “ladders” on slanted lines. Decent maximum brightness (300 cd / m²) and improved static contrast (3000: 1) with excellent viewing angles will allow you to get the most out of watching new movies in the highest quality. Support for AMD FreeSync technology and low matrix response time (4 ms GtG) ensure the clarity of displaying dynamic scenes of computer games without artifacts (frame breaks).

Entry level monitor with 10-bit matrix

In the current realities, when the introduction of new technologies (curved matrices, high resolution, Freesync 2) has gradually settled down, it turned out that a large and high-quality 4K monitor does not have to cost like a gaming computer. This thesis is easily confirmed by the versatile and inexpensive curved 32-inch Dell S3221QS monitor, which impresses with a natural image (thanks to the 10-bit matrix), HDR support, and excellent ergonomics. Add in natural colour reproduction (99% sRGB coverage and 90% DCI P3 coverage) and you have an interesting entry-level option for graphics and photography.

Five stars for ergonomics

Now about the certificate. The monitor stand allows you to adjust the height and tilt of the display, and at the software level, it supports Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture modes. In the first case, the monitor can be divided into 2 working areas for different programs — for example, a text editor and a browser with an open wiki page. In the second mode, you can connect several signal sources to the monitor and visually separate them on the screen, as if they were two separate monitors. Given that the Dell S3221QS has a curved screen (radius of curvature 1800), at times you feel like the captain of a ship sitting behind a huge dashboard. Whatever you say, Dell knows a lot about working tools.

Not the best for gaming

As for games, the existing VA matrix demonstrates a good response speed (4 ms) and supports the AMD FreeSync feature, which is mandatory for gaming monitors, which helps to eliminate the ladder effect. The only drawback is that the refresh rate here is only 60 Hz, and at 120 or 144 Hz, as in most modern displays for gamers. And the matrix itself is not particularly fast. However, no one at Dell talked about games. And in general, cheap 4K matrices with a high refresh rate are a rarity. At least for now.
