A high-end tower cooler that occupies one of the leading positions in the range of the be quiet! brand, bypassing the Dark Rock and Pure Rock tower CBOs in terms of performance. Like the rest of the cooling systems of the German brand, this fan is based on three principles: maximum quality of materials, high cooling efficiency and minimum noise level. The tower is made according to the classic U-shaped layout, when a massive heatsink hangs over the processor socket, a 120-mm fan blows it from the side, and five heat pipes directly contact the processor.

The massive design has an impressive weight (710g) and height (163 mm), which imposes restrictions on the dimensions of other components. The use of proprietary Shadow Wings turntables with automatic PWM speed adjustment allows you to achieve minimal noise both in idle and under maximum load. In particular, for this model, a maximum noise level of 24 dB is declared, which can be called a phenomenal result with its rated power of 190 watts.

Despite such an impressive performance, it is positioned as a product of the middle price category. The included mounting kit ensures compatibility with most Intel and AMD processors released between 2005 and 2022. All of this makes Shadow Rock 3 an excellent choice for gaming and production builds in a full-size case with a manually overclocked High-End Core i7 caliber processor or a Core i9 caliber processor with turbo boost activated.

Shady rock

be quiet! Shadow Rock 3 is a large single-tower CPU cooler capable of dissipating up to 190W of heat. Another ten watts more and he could rightfully be called a "supercooler". However, knowing the habit of be quiet! to modestly declare less than the real one, you can expect honest 200+ watts from Shadow Rock 3 with almost complete certainty. The whole structure (radiator plus fan) weighs 710 grams, and its height is 16.3 cm, which is slightly larger than the standard 15.5 – 16.

Asymmetrical shape

The Shadow Rock 3 heatsink consists of five copper heatpipes, 6mm in diameter and plated with nickel to unify the silver colour and protect against corrosion. The array of aluminium fins is strongly shifted towards the VRM-zone of the motherboard, thereby completely freeing up the RAM slots. This allows you to install even high RAM modules. From above, the ugly soldered ends of the heat pipes are covered with a decorative casing with the be quiet! logo.

Shine of metal

The Shadow Rock 3 tubes are in direct contact with the thermal cover of the processor without an intermediary plate. The sole is perfectly smooth and polished to a mirror finish. The cooler comes with mounts for all current processor sockets: Intel LGA 1155, 1150, 1151 and 1151-v2, the latest 1200, 2011-v3, 2066, AMD AM3+ and AM4. There is no support except for the highly specialized AMD TR4, but it requires a cooling system with a larger sole area and a heat sink of 250-300 watts.

Quiet and fast

The complete fan is named Shadow Wings 2 120mm PWM High-Speed with a threaded bearing. Its maximum rotational speed theoretically is 1600 rpm, but in fact, most of the time it spins at a generally indistinguishable 500 – 700 rpm. The minimum noise level is achieved thanks to the four-pole motor, corrugated blades and rubber seals. And if you have enough heat dissipation up to 150 W, then take a closer look at the more affordable be quiet! — Silver Pure Rock 2 and Black Pure Rock 2 Black.
