Model overview based on user reviews
The Sony RX100 VII is a remarkable compact camera that combines a large 1" sensor with a versatile Carl Zeiss lens, offering an impressive 8.3x zoom range from 24-200 mm. It excels in both photography and videography, featuring fast continuous shooting up to 24 fps, 4K video capabilities, and a microphone input, making it ideal for bloggers and travelers. The camera's advanced autofocus system, including eye and animal eye detection, ensures sharp images, while the touchscreen display with a 180-degree flip enhances usability. Despite its compact size, it delivers excellent image quality, though it lacks weather protection and has a relatively small battery, which can be mitigated by using a PowerBank. Overall, the RX100 VII is highly recommended for both beginners and experienced photographers seeking a portable yet professional-grade camera.

great model, love it
29 June 2020
I purchased this device as a replacement for my old DSLR. After spending a lot of time researching the current market, I decided on a compact but professional model. This model suited my needs, as I run a personal blog and love to travel. I was very impressed with the responsive autofocus, which also focuses on eyes and animal eyes. For traveling, I needed a zoom to bring objects closer that were difficult to approach. In this camera, it's 8.3x 24-200 mm. For blogging and stories, they came up with a cool feature; the device can shoot 4k video in portrait orientation. There is also a microphone input. Overall, I liked the RX100m7, except for the small battery. But I solved this problem by using a PowerBank with the device.

A unique camera suitable for both beginners and experienced photographers
2 November 2019
I have been a long-time fan of the RX line, starting from the very first camera. At one time, these cameras charmed me with their balance of image quality, technical capabilities, and physical size. I'm extremely pleased that with each new camera in the series, they become more attractive not only for amateur shooting but also gain useful new technical features. Upon first use, after my Sony RX100V, I immediately noticed the new lens. The lens's magnification has increased almost 3 times, making the camera finally universal. The screen has become touchscreen, and real-time eye focus was introduced. Reviews have noted that a microphone jack has appeared, but I bought this camera for photos, I don't shoot videos, so I can't evaluate this update. The camera has retained its compact ergonomics, fits comfortably in the hand, and easily fits in a pocket. I have no complaints about the image quality, the pictures are sharp. Up to ISO 1600 in JPG and 3200 in RAW, I didn't notice any noise; you can go further, but then you might have to tweak it in the editor. Many say that smartphones have already surpassed or reached the same level as cameras, but after using the RX100 VII, you realize that is far from the truth. I recommend the camera for purchase, both as a second to your main professional camera and as the only camera for work and everyday shooting. I don't consider the price a drawback, as the camera has no analogues on the market, and I understand what I'm paying for.

"Thumbelina" Sony RX100 literally pulled out of the peak of the compact camera market under the onslaught of a cavalry of well-removing mobile phones. Since then, Sony's line of premium ultra-compacts has been updated every year. In the summer of 2019, the seventh generation of the RX100 model was released in “free swimming”.

Thumbelina

The camera is called "inch" for good reason. Firstly, it is assembled in a compact body with dimensions of 102x58x43 mm, and secondly, the heart of the camera is an inch matrix with a resolution of 20 MP. The image sensor is built in the image of the strongest flagship mirrorless Sony A9. It is assisted in its work by a powerful Bionz X processor. As a result, the camera boasts lightning-fast response to user actions, record battery life (up to 90 fps with focus and exposure lock), as well as advanced video shooting capabilities.

Emphasis on video

In the seventh generation, the compact has finally thrown off the burden of a 5-minute limit on recording 4K video. From now on, the stabilized video sequence is written to the camera continuously or until the matrix overheats. Video shooting is possible in portrait orientation, in addition, a long-awaited microphone input was “brought up” by a specialist for video bloggers. In FullHD, clips are recorded on camera at frame rates up to 120 fps (or up to 960 fps on a short-term basis to freeze in motion).

I see the goal — I see no barriers

The optics for the ultra-compact was the “thoroughbred” station wagon Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T * 24-200mm f / 2.8-4.5, which the model inherited from its predecessor, the Sony RX100 VI. And from the innovations, the camera got a redesigned automatic focus system. Henceforth, 357 phase detection points were added to the 425 zones of contrast AF. In the software assets of autofocus, the ability to track an object in the frame by the eyes (Movie Eye AF) has appeared.

Advanced functionality

The most interesting way in the model is the "registration" of the viewfinder. It has a retractable design and leaves the housing on call. Instead, the "peephole" is invited to enjoy the benefits of a 3-inch tilting screen with touch controls. But there was no place for a hot shoe on the “carcass” of the camera. However, even without it, the Sony RX100 VII remains one of the most charged ultra-compacts, which is not a sin to recommend to advanced photo enthusiasts and professional photographers as a pocket camera for every day.
