Optical stabilization

— stabilization systems are used to eliminate distortion in the image due to camera shake (for example, due to vibrations on a rough road) and improve image quality. The principle of operation of optical stabilization is as follows: when vibrations occur, some lenses in the lens are shifted so that the image on the sensor remains motionless.

Ceteris paribus, optical systems provide better image quality than digital ones (see the relevant paragraph): in this case, the sensor is used entirely, and there is no need to provide a margin at the edges. On the other hand, this difference becomes noticeable mainly in low light and in other specific conditions, and the stabilization systems themselves are expensive and less reliable. As a result, this option is typical mainly for premium cameras.
