Ceramics

— ceramics is the general name for materials obtained by sintering at high temperatures. There are many varieties of such materials; in particular clay and porcelain (see relevant paragraphs) are also included in this category. Actually, in most cases, ceramics mean just glazed clay or other similar material, although other options are possible; this point should be clarified separately.

However, all pottery has certain common features. Firstly, it is considered excellent for teapots: ceramic walls are usually quite thick and have a high heat capacity, due to which the optimum temperature for brewing is kept inside for a long time. Secondly, ceramics can have any colour and pattern; they are often even decorated with relief images. Thirdly, this material is relatively fragile — however, again, due to its large thickness, only a rather strong blow can break ceramics. At the same time, for a number of reasons, this material is practically not found among ordinary teapots (see "Type").
