— grills with this feature have a divided working surface, allowing for independent temperature control of each part. Most of these models are contact grills that can open 180° (see the relevant paragraph). This enables separate temperature adjustment for the main surface and the lid. In the "open" position, this feature allows for simultaneous cooking of different dishes requiring different temperature conditions. When the grill is closed, the separate temperature control enables different intensity of cooking from the top and bottom, such as browning the bottom half of a burger while lightly heating the top.

There are also open grills, in which the working surface is divided into two independent temperature zones; however, this possibility significantly complicates the design and increases its cost, so that very few such models are produced.
