Usually, this feature provides at least the presence of a reinforced case that can protect the filling from impacts. Such protection, even in the most resistant cameras, is not absolute, but it provides an additional margin of time — which allows the camera to fix the attacker, or even force him to abandon his intention. Some models may also provide an alarm for shock or camera shake.
