— this feature means that the lens is equipped with its own autofocus motor. It can be either an ultrasonic motor or a conventional one (see the relevant paragraphs), but a “screwdriver” type drive in this case is not considered autofocusing.

Autofocus in most cases is faster and more convenient than manual focus, but for this function to work correctly, the lens must be used on the “native” bayonet mount (autofocus may not be available when working through an adapter).
