Coaxial S/PDIF

— an output for transmitting audio signals in digital form via a coaxial electrical cable. This output typically uses an RCA connector; however, it should not be confused with the RCA audio output (see the relevant section): a different signal transmission format is used in this case, and the entire data stream is transmitted through a single connector. Additionally, a specially shielded cable is highly recommended for connection, as a regular RCA cable is not well-suited for this purpose.

S/P-DIF capabilities allow multichannel sound to be transmitted over a single wire. Electrical connections are more susceptible to interference than optical ones (see "Optical S/P-DIF"), but coaxial cables are less delicate than optical fibers and do not require special handling care.
