External control module
— the external control module is, in fact, a kind of remote control. However, unlike the usual wireless remotes, it is connected to the sound card with a wire. Another difference is that the actual control capabilities provided by the external module are quite modest and rarely include any adjustments other than volume. However, even this feature can be very useful — in particular, during games, when changing the settings programmatically is very inconvenient, if not impossible at all. Actually, most audio cards with this feature are specifically for gaming models.
