Guillotine shears

Guillotine shears

— a shear tool with a lever mechanism where the movable blade descends onto a stationary one to make a precise "chopping" cut, making it ideal when a neat edge without significant material deformation is important. Unlike a grinder or jigsaw, it produces cuts without sparks, excess noise, or overheating, and compared to regular hand metal shears, guillotine shears cause less warping of the sheet and maintain a straight line more easily, especially on galvanized and thin aluminum. The most notable aspect is predictability: if the specified thickness is adhered to and not pushed to the limit, the tool maintains its geometry for a long time and does not tear the edge. Therefore, before purchasing, one typically considers the maximum thickness/hardness of the material and the length of the cutting line. Examples of usage include quickly cutting strips of galvanized steel for ventilation ducts, neatly cutting sheet aluminum for roof fittings, or trimming plastic or thin composite in the workshop when a clean edge is needed for further assembly.
