A special model of closed-type professional on-ear headphones with a detachable cable and excellent passive protection against noisy environments. Capable of delivering high sound pressure levels. Designed for DJing, reportage work, concert and studio monitoring, testing of sound equipment. They have a durable and practical design with a resilient metal headband that provides good clamping force with a pressure of 2.5 N.

Relatively small cups with wide elastic ear cups provide even pressure distribution over the entire contact circumference and outstanding noise isolation, which is quite comparable to in-ear models. The Sennheiser HD 25 headphones deliver balanced and smooth sound with THD <0.3% THD, which is great for monitoring and identifying audio imperfections. Provides detailed and expressive bass to effectively control the kick and tempo of dance music. They have high sensitivity (SPL 120 dB), are fully compatible with professional equipment, and are resistant to overloads. Complete with a one and a half metre detachable cable reinforced with a steel core.

Model overview based on user reviews
The Sennheiser HD 25 headphones are highly regarded for their great sound quality and lightweight design, making them a popular choice among DJs and studio engineers. They offer excellent sound insulation, crucial for noisy environments like discos. While they provide clear and decent sound with good bass, they do not fully cover the ears, which may cause some discomfort after prolonged use. The headphones are notably lighter compared to models like the Technics RP-DH1200, but this comes at the cost of a seemingly fragile construction due to the use of thinner plastic. Additionally, the connection cable and connectors are perceived as less durable, potentially weakening with frequent use. Despite these concerns, the HD 25 remains a favored choice for its sound performance and portability.
Pros

Cons

great model, love it
31 March 2025
The headphones were purchased to replace the Technics RP-DH1200, which unfortunately are no longer produced. These headphones do not fully cover the ear, so after prolonged use, some discomfort may be felt, but the sound is still very decent and clear with good bass. This model also has very good sound insulation, which is very important when working at a disco. After using the Technics, these Sennheisers seem as light as a feather, they are about three times lighter, as everything is made not from the thickest plastic. This is also a downside because the whole construction seems quite fragile and not very reliable. Additionally, I didn't like the connection cable very much because the connectors to the headphones are also not the most durable, and during operation, when you often need to take the headphones on and off, the contact will clearly weaken, which is mentioned in many reviews.
Great sound, weight.
Nothing yet, but they seem a bit fragile at first glance.

Child of Two Worlds

Sennheiser HD 25 are in a way unique and legendary headphones equally loved by studio engineers and club DJs. Yet these people have entirely different demands for what they want to hear in headphones.

DJs' Favorite

The HD 25 features a classic split headband, drivers with lightweight aluminum voice coils, and a 1.5-meter cable with one-sided connection and steel wire. At first glance, they look very minimalist — a simple headband with a cushion, a pair of thick but not overly bulky ear cups, and minimal decoration. Despite the large ear cups, they are quite lightweight, don’t weigh down the head, and cannot be easily shaken off with sudden movement. Plus, they are durable and won’t be damaged by falls to the ground. This is one reason why they are so respected by club DJs. Also, thanks to the closed design, they allow minimal external noise into the ear canal, and the design allows for monitoring sound with one ear, which is, again, important for DJs.

Noise Is Not a Threat

But that's not all. They have unique driver characteristics that allow them to handle high sound pressure excellently, providing maximum clarity across the entire frequency spectrum. Even ultra-low bass in noisy environments is characterized by clear articulation. Although, due to the confined small space of the ear cups, sometimes there is too much bass, almost dominating over other instruments. Overall, the Sennheiser HD 25 demonstrates excellent tonal balance, a wide musical stage, and good detail resolution. They perform well across diverse musical genres, whether it's heavy metal or trendy drill. If you often have to work in a noisy studio or perform on stage, where nearby a pair of Funktion-One club speakers blast at several kilowatts, you definitely won't go wrong choosing the HD 25.

From the press release:

Sennheiser HD 25 are specially designed, professional monitor headphones that provide high attenuation of the acoustic background. Capable of handling very high sound pressure levels and featuring an extremely rugged construction, these headphones perform exceptionally well in noisy environments such as ENG, sound reinforcement, studio monitoring and audio equipment testing. The capsule is rotatable for listening with one ear. Perfect monitor headphones for operators and disc jockeys
