A great monitor for contrast lovers that can sell you an Ambylight TV
12 October 2025
Probably the best monitor for the money. Sure, for its target audience. Of course, after 1080p/24", it’ll seem like a great buy, but you’ll have to live with a few compromises at this price.
VA means better contrast. It honestly delivers around 300 nits of brightness; the image is genuinely bright and vivid. And black really looks black, as long as it doesn’t fill the whole screen—otherwise you can see the dirty screen effect that most LCDs suffer from.

Ambiglow lighting is basically a free perk, since this monitor is already in the budget league of VA/1440p models, and competing monitors don’t have any advantage with their lighting. It always boosts perceived contrast because it keeps you from sitting in pitch darkness with only the monitor, which is the worst thing you can do to any EDGE LED screen (the cheapest Mini-LED monitor costs roughly twice as much).
VA — so the viewing angles are worse than IPS (they’re not terrible, it’s just better to sit in front of it rather than off to the side)

The backlight is slapdash. If you’re gaming it’s still okay, but in movies with constant editing cuts you can see the backlight lag for a split second. I’d rather pay a bit extra to get a faster backlight that supports more colors and has smoother brightness control, but that’s expected in a budget monitor. The next level of Ambiglow is 2x the price.

HDR is there on paper, and it’s not awful, but I’ll probably keep wondering whether to use it or just stick with regular SDR.

The stand is too deep.
