The fifth generation of Huawei FreeBuds wireless in-ear headphones feature enhanced active noise cancellation technology Hybrid ANC, and high-quality sound at the level of Hi-Res Audio Wireless. They also include a special low-latency gaming mode for comfortable gaming and video watching. Compared to the previous model, the Huawei FreeBuds 5i have become slightly more compact and lighter, including the charging case.
Meanwhile, the battery capacity inside the case has almost doubled — from 215 mAh to 410 mAh, providing up to 28 hours of battery life (without active noise cancellation). Thanks to fast charging technology, just 15 minutes in the case will give the headphones up to 4 hours of playback time in music mode. A key design difference from the previous version is the shorter "stem", which will not interfere with or catch on long hair, high collars, or scarves.
These are intended for users seeking a high-quality sounding Bluetooth headset that allows enjoying music in noisy environments (on a busy street, public transport, or airplane). This model is compatible with any smartphones running both Android and iOS. For full functionality, the Huawei AI Life app is needed for fine-tuning and software updates. I recommend to buy, even if the phone is not Huawei, with Xiaomi they go with a bang. Updated from 1 more tws with Aptx, the difference is significant. - Sound quality, I recommend choosing the LDAC codec - Noise cancellation ANC (works decently) - Transparency mode is also not bad. - Microphone quality is up to standard - Type-C port (my ancient ones had micro-usb, one of the reasons for the upgrade) As such, I did not find any cons, there is no wireless charging, if this is critical for someone. These are budget TWS wireless earphones. For their price, they offer a very balanced set of features for everyday use. First of all, they have pleasant sound for their price range with support for high bitrate (LDAC) and a 10 mm dynamic driver. The battery lasts about 6 hours with ANC on and up to 7.5 hours without it, and with the charging case, it lasts a total of about 18–28 hours, which is enough for a whole day of active use. They are capable of covering a wide range of frequencies (20 - 40,000 Hz), and using the proprietary application for Android and iOS, the user can adjust the sound according to their own preferences or genre of music using an equalizer. Lag-free data transfer, including in game mode, is ensured by Sony's LDAC codec. The model supports multi-connection and allows you to quickly select a sound source in the AI Life application. There, the user can configure the auto-pause function when removing the earphone from the ear. The set includes a set of ear pads, which ensures a comfortable and tight fit of the headphones, preventing discomfort and sound distortion.
Adaptive Noise Canceling
The quality of TWS headphones depends significantly on the noise reduction system. In the case of Huawei FreeBuds 5i, it is available in several modes, including custom (ultra, general, cozy) and adaptive mode. Adaptive mode is controlled by artificial intelligence algorithms, which ensures that there is no extraneous noise while listening to music and clear voice transmission when using a microphone. The system analyzes the surrounding environment, determines the noise level and filters out all unwanted sounds, such as wind, engine noise and conversations of others.
The battery life of the headphones and charging case is 28 hours, which may seem a little low for this price category. However, a quick charge of 15 minutes provides 4 hours of playback. The earbuds also support a search function, but it is only available for Huawei devices, which limits its functionality.
During calls, they can hear you well, even on the street. The only thing is — it's better not to whisper.)
The shape of the headphones is unusual (or unfamiliar), but comfortable. Gestures, touch, sensors - everything is top-notch. I highly recommend updating the headphones; in one of the updates, a convenient gesture for changing tracks was made. The app needs to be downloaded from the Huawei website, after which it updates itself (like Telegram from the site).
