Multifunctional smart speaker from Google to control the smart home system and listen to music. Unlike rival Amazon's Alexa speaker, this model has a sleeker design, and deep integration with Google services makes it an attractive choice for users who want to experience the convenience of voice control today. Unfortunately, at the beginning of 2019, the voice assistant only understands spoken English.
The Google Home smart speaker is equipped with a built-in Bluetooth adapter, dual-band Wi-Fi, two microphones and a two-way speaker system consisting of two dynamic drivers and two passive radiators that increase the depth of bass sounds. Able to answer simple questions, play music, control smart home devices, add events to the calendar and play video/audio via Chromecast. The manufacturer is positioning itself as an affordable device for advanced users and home IoT technology enthusiasts. Thanks to the data collected by Google web services, speech recognition is quite accurate, which is not interfered with by the accent at all. Listening to music from streaming services Google Play Music and Spotify is available, multiroom technology is supported. Managed and configured from an Android smartphone.
trendsetter
Google introduced its first smart speaker back in 2016 and has been actively promoting smart home gadgets ever since.
The appearance of Google Home is minimalist but tasteful. Visually, the case is divided into two parts: on top there is a plastic cylinder with a voice assistant activation button and all the hardware, and at the bottom there is a mesh cup, under which the speaker speakers are hidden. In addition to the assistant call button, there is a small touch panel on top to control the volume and that's it.
Head of the building
By removing the usual buttons on, off, pause, etc., Google seems to be hinting that it is better to command the speaker with your voice. And it’s really more convenient: to say, “ok Google, play music” is much faster than to climb into the smartphone player. Simplifies the process of integrating the Google Assistant with most popular music services (Youtube, Google Music, Spotify, TuneIn, Deezer, etc.)
The Foundation of Google Home
All integration with smart services happens through the Google Home smartphone app. In the application, you can select your favorite music service, tie other "smart" devices, set an alarm, read the news, turn on your favorite playlist, find out the weather forecast and much more. In addition, at any time you can ask the Google Assistant a question, ask him to joke or play a game with him. And the list of such features is constantly growing, and the speaker itself is learning to understand more and more languages (Russian was added in 2018).
Quality sound
Now how does it all sound. Given that the speaker is quite small, in terms of sound capabilities, it can surprise. As it turned out, two high-frequency and two passive radiators are hidden inside a small case at once. Therefore, the sound is quite clear, with a distinct bass and a good volume margin. Full-fledged acoustics, of course, will not be outshouted, but it was not created for this. However in tracks where there is so much bass, Google Home sometimes created an overload, which somewhat spoiled the initial impressions.
- Circular movement on panel adjusts the volume
- Long tap replaces "Ok Google"
- A short touch puts the audio system into standby mode
