More cores for less money
AMD FX processors are like fine wine, they only get better with age. The mid-range FX-6300 has six cores (the junior chips of the 4300 sub-series are quad-core, the older 8300 models are eight-core), but at the same time it costs one and a half times cheaper than the four-thread Core i3-7100.
For parallelizable tasks
Of course, the performance per core of the AMD Piledriver architecture, which debuted back in 2011, is lower than that of the new Intel Kaby Lake. But the extra two cores help a lot in well-parallelized games like Watch Dogs 2, where four threads often cause seconds of freezes that make the gameplay simply unbearable.
An annoying buzz
You can blame the FX-6300 for the noisy cooler that comes in the kit (the new AMD Ryzen processors are already equipped with much better coolers). In addition, the FX-6300 does not have an integrated graphics accelerator (not all AM3+ motherboards have a chipset with integrated graphics). But all this is forgivable, since the AMD FX-6300 is still one of the best options in terms of price and number of cores.
