Elliptical wound strings

 

— the elliptical profile is essentially a slightly modified version of the round braid. The surface of such a string is smoother, which reduces the wear of the nut and facilitates the sliding of the fingers, while at the same time the sound remains quite bright and resonant (more resonant than that of a flat braid).
