Wax pencils

— the name "wax crayons" is also found. As the name implies, such drawing tools are usually created on the basis of wax or similar materials: organic wax is used in premium-class sets, and more affordable paraffin in relatively inexpensive models. At the same time, unlike ordinary pencils, in this case the shell is either absent altogether, or is made purely symbolic (paper).

Technically, wax crayons are a type of pastel (see related paragraph); however, due to specific features, they are often separated into a separate category. In particular, such tools are extremely rarely used for serious artwork — but they are perfect for the role of training and "children's" drawing materials. Wax crayons are easy to sharpen, and due to their rather large thickness, they can be given different shapes, which allows you to apply different types of strokes.
