It has a special blade design — for example, in the form of a curved plate with a slot, where the role of the cutting edge is played by the sharpened edge of the slot. Such a blade itself limits the thickness of the removed peel, and the user does not need to control the thickness manually: even with inaccuracies in the movements, the vegetable peeler will not remove the “extra”. Also, the design may provide additional useful details — in particular, the characteristic "ears" for cutting out small pieces like the "eyes" of potatoes). Thanks to this, it is much more convenient to clean vegetables and fruits with such a tool than with an ordinary kitchen knife; in addition, vegetable peelers can be used for other tasks — for example, cutting the same potato into thin slices for cooking chips.
