In the Clip series, JBL produces exclusively inexpensive, very compact and lightweight portable speakers with a carabiner, with which the speaker can be easily attached to clothing, hung on the handlebars of a bicycle, or attached to a loop in a bag or backpack. For ease of everyday use, Clip speakers are made, pardon the pun, as miniature as possible: the weight of the speaker, as a rule, does not exceed 230 grams, and the little one itself can be quickly removed from the latch and hidden in a jacket or shirt pocket. And for greater convenience, basic control and configuration are carried out in the corresponding mobile application from JBL.

Clip portable speakers are not distinguished by high-quality bass processing or high volume. The bass frequency range usually does not fall below 100 Hz, and the total power of the built-in speaker does not exceed 5 W. Rather, they are positioned by the manufacturer as affordable portable acoustics for people who would like to listen to music in the company of friends while hiking, on a country trip, or while cycling. An energy-efficient Bluetooth interface is used to receive wireless digital audio signals. The case is usually protected from dust and moisture according to IPX7 or IP67 standards. Some models have a speakerphone function and the ability to combine several speakers into a single audio system using a 3.5 mm audio cable.

At the beginning of 2021, JBL released the 4th iteration of the Clip speaker, which has been the showcase of the entire series for several years. The manufacturer developed the ideas of previous speakers, worked on the sound and updated the design - the speaker became more round and neat, and the number of color options exceeded a dozen. Unlike Clip 3, this little one communicates with other equipment via Bluetooth 5.1, it has a stronger body and a more massive carabiner, and the total power has increased from 3.3 to 5 W. The battery has become smaller, but due to the use of energy-efficient Bluetooth 5.1, Clip 4 operates for the same 10 hours as its predecessor. It also does not have a built-in microphone and an analog cable connector.
