Outboard turbocharged engines

Turbocharging

— turbocharging systems used in gasoline engines (see "Engine type") allow a significant increase in power without increasing the working volume. This function is implemented as follows: the compressor, powered by exhaust gases, increases the pressure of the mixture at the inlet to the cylinders. The downside of having a turbocharger is an increase in engine cost, complexity in maintenance and repair, and an increase in fuel consumption (although in terms of gasoline consumption per unit of power, such engines still turn out to be quite economical).
