Hoists
Hoist
— a device for lifting loads, in its classic form, having the appearance of an improved fixed block. Usually uses chains (see "Mechanism"). Unlike a conventional block, when working with a hoist, the user does not pull the power chain, which lifts the load, but the drive chain, which rotates a special pulley. This pulley is connected with a power pulley by means of a gearbox, which pulls the chain with the load upwards. The reducer provides a gain in strength due to a loss in movement, thanks to which the hoists allow one person to lift loads weighing up to 2 – 3 tons; most of these devices are manual, although there are also electric models (see "Drive"). At the same time, the hoist takes up relatively little space and requires only suspension from the ceiling, a solid beam or other sufficiently reliable support for installation.clear | Save List |
