P4 level

— to comply with the fourth level, the shredder must use only cross-type cutting, the area of the fragments must not exceed 160 mm², and the width must not exceed 6 mm. This indicator is already considered sufficient for the disposal of materials of “delicate” content, which, however, do not require high secrecy — for example, common business documents. Although it is possible to recover materials after disposal at level P-4, it is technically difficult, this requires special equipment. Note that this level is most popular in modern shredders — for many users, it provides the best ratio of price and reliability.

For optical discs, the fourth level of secrecy involves cutting into fragments up to 30 mm², for credit cards — up to 160 mm².
