— the most popular premium brand of mechanical switches. Cherry was founded in the USA, is now based in Germany, and released its first "mechanical" models back in the early 1980s; this manufacturer also set the standards for color differentiation (see "Switch Types"). Overall, Cherry MX mechanics are not cheap, but the build quality is quite consistent with the price. In particular, all switches within a keyboard are identical in quality and feel during use; and the design often uses gold-plated contacts that are resistant to corrosion — thanks to this, if liquid gets in, it is enough to rinse and dry the keyboard. The direct competitor to Cherry MX is Gateron (see the corresponding section).
