Previously, it was customary for mountain bike wheels to be 26 inches in diameter, but this is now an outdated size. Most MTB bicycles are equipped with 27.5-inch wheels, less often - 29-inch wheels (the so-called “niners”). The large diameter is not intended to improve speed characteristics, but to increase the contact patch and increase the cross-country ability of the MTB bike.
