A USB port splitter, also known as a USB hub, Transcend TS-HUB3 is perhaps the first laptop accessory to buy. Modern laptops are rarely equipped with more than three USB ports, and not all of them are widely demanded full-size Type-A (there was an obvious false start with the newfangled Type-C). Unlike cheap USB hubs running on the outdated USB 2.0 standard, the TS-HUB3 splits one high-speed built-in laptop USB 3.0 port into four similarly fast external ports (tested by connecting four external hard drives with an average speed of 100 MB / s each). Reliable circuitry
Inside the hub is a Genesys Logic GL3520 controller and durable solid capacitors that can withstand high temperatures. However, the device heats up relatively weakly: even with the simultaneous connection of several energy-intensive devices, the case remains barely warm.
Charge to full
The problem of a possible lack of power, typical of other USB hubs, is solved by the TS-HUB3 with a complete power supply (12 V, 1.5 A). The hub can work without a connected power supply, but it still adds a useful function for fast charging smartphones, tablets and power banks (5 V, 2 A versus 0.5 A typical for a laptop). The Transcend TS-HUB3 can only be blamed for its excessively glossy plastic housing, which collects fingerprints. Otherwise, this is a fast and, most importantly, stable USB hub that can be used with both a laptop and a desktop PC. If you do not plan to connect energy-intensive USB devices and an external PSU is not required, pay attention to the more affordable Transcend TS-HUB2 hub.
