The structure does not add up.
Sony WH-1000XM5 is the fifth generation of full-size on-ear hybrid headphones with active noise cancellation, released in 2022. The model received a number of changes, which mainly relate to the appearance. Instead of metal and leather, Sony decided to use plastic and ditch the foldable design, so the bundled case is quite large. But the headband has become more elegant, and in general, wearing the WH-1000XM5 is a pleasure.
Nothing rubs, does not press, and the weight is almost not felt. There is only one claim to ergonomics. The ear pads got hot. After a couple of hours of use, you want to ventilate your ears. Other innovations include as many as 8 microphones (there were 5 in the XM4) and a second processor for improved adaptive noise reduction. Noise cancellation really works just perfect. You can not even hear the noise of the train in the subway.
The same applies to the quality of speech during calls. It is very decent. Many will like the sound of the 30mm XM5 drivers, as they support DSEE-Extreme and Hi-Res Audio (AAC and LDAC formats). The compositions sound natural, without bright accents, there is an equalizer that can be adjusted through the application, but in general, everything is fine without it. That being said, you can always quickly mute the sound by placing your palm on the sensor on the right earcup, or simply remove the headphones to trigger the pause sensor. The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones connect via Bluetooth 5.2, but fans of analogue sound can still use the detachable mini-Jack cable with them. Autonomy has not changed either. All the same 30 hours with ANC on and up to 40 with it off. It takes 3.5 hours to fully charge.
