44 MP front camera. AMOLED display with Always on Display and 90Hz refresh rate. 50W fast charging. Super economical power consumption mode. Case included.

A remarkable model in the mid-low-cost shelf from the 2021 OPPO portfolio. The smartphone meets the user with a juicy and fast Super AMOLED screen, which is characterized by a diagonal size of 6.4", a FullHD + image resolution (2400x1080 pixels) and, importantly, a frame rate of 90 Hz. That's not all — a fingerprint scanner is hidden in the sub-screen layer of the device to unlock the smartphone by fingerprint.

The internal “hardware” of OPPO Reno5 did not let us down either — it got a performant mid-range Snapdragon 720G chipset, flavored with 8/128 GB of onboard memory. To expand the capacity of a standard drive, a separate slot for a microSD card is provided. The smartphone takes photos at a 44 MP front camera and a quad camera from the rear (64 + 8 + 2 + 2 MP). Moreover, it can produce video from both angles simultaneously (front and rear). The positive impression of the device is reinforced by the NFC and the function of 50-watt charging of a 4310 mAh battery — from an empty tank to one hundred percent in just 48 minutes.

Smartphone for photo and selfie

The representative of the OPPO Reno series belongs to the middle price segment and will appeal more to fans of photo and video shooting. The front camera here is 44-megapixel — surprisingly, only a few years ago only the main cameras could boast of such a resolution. The back consists of four modules. A 64-megapixel main sensor and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with a field of view of 119 degrees play an important role, two more sensors only complement them and are added, rather, for the sake of quantity. These are 2 MP sensors for macro shooting and depth estimation. In general, the pictures are not of the highest level, but for a mid-range smartphone, they are quite decent. Perhaps the settings are more interesting here — with the help of various tools you will get interesting photos and videos for the social media feed. For example, this is AI Mixed night, panorama and portrait mode, Soloop editor for automatic or manual video processing, video mode with highlighting the colours of the main object and black and white background, 108 MP ultra-clear image mode, when AI algorithms increase the resolution to the maximum, image overlay on any videophone, as well as the ability to record video from two angles at once. Simply put, shooting is carried out immediately with both the main and front cameras.

good screen

Almost the entire front panel of the smartphone is occupied by a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of FHD + (2400x1080 pixels), Always on Display, and a refresh rate increased to 90 Hz. As a result, you get instant response to pressing and smoothness of the image, especially in games. By the way, there is also a special game mode that blocks incoming notifications to better focus on battles and strategies. The display is surrounded by small bezels and hides an under-screen fingerprint scanner, which, together with the face recognition function, is responsible for security. There's also a message privacy mode that masks notification previews until you're alone. Perhaps, the impression is spoiled only by a plastic case with the same frame, although this is typical for mid-low-cost devices.

Processor and battery life

All in all, OPPO Reno5 has got everything you need for stable operation and pays back every penny spent. The Snapdragon 720G processor paired with 8GB of RAM allows you to perform all your daily tasks like watching videos, surfing the web and playing games. The 4310mAh battery will give you a day of battery life and supports 50W fast charging, which is rare at this price point. As a result, just 5 minutes at the outlet will add another 3 hours for watching videos, and it will take only 48 minutes to fully charge. In addition, there is an ultra-economical power consumption mode, when only 5% is enough for communication in messengers for more than 2 hours, and battery protection from heating, even if you play while charging. Strangely, it comes with a 65W SuperVOOC charger, but the power of the smartphone itself is limited to 50W. Also worth noting is the presence of NFC, a USB Type C connector for charging, a 3.5 mm headphone port, a slot for two SIM cards and a microSD memory card, as well as a transparent silicone case in the kit.

By the way, the OPPO Reno5 5G model is also on the market, but it is radically different both in appearance and in characteristics, and not only in support of fifth-generation networks.
