The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12-200mm f/3.5-6.3 ED is one lens for all occasions for those who don't want to bother with rearranging optics for shooting certain storylines.
Multi-Purpose Destiny
The multi-purpose design of the model reveals the widest range of focal lengths of 24-400 mm(full-frame equivalent, taking into account the crop factor of Micro 4/3 cameras, equal to two). At the minimum zoom on the lens, it is convenient to shoot landscapes and architecture, at medium focal lengths — a wide variety of scenes, and at a telephoto position — very distant objects, shy birds and animals. And the model is great when traveling.
Waterproof version
The lens belongs to the basic line of Olympus optics, however, its body boasts dust and water protection. Inside the case there is an optical circuit (17 elements in 11 groups), an autofocus motor and a 7-blade diaphragm. Outside are the zoom and focus rings. For some reason, they didn’t even provide a lock for the retractable “trunk”, which is why it slides down under its own weight.
Side by side
The basic "breed" of the model is given by a low "floating" aperture f / 3.5-5.6 and the absence of an image stabilization system on board the lens. Together with cameras without a built-in stub, it will be difficult to shoot on it in the zoom position due to the high probability of blurring the picture (especially in low-light conditions of the frame). Therefore, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 12-200mm f / 3.5-6.3 ED is best suited for Olympus and Panasonic mirrorless cameras with a matrix stabilization system. Together with them, it looks proportional, and does not particularly weigh down the weight of the “carcass” of the camera, adding about 455 g to it.
