From the press release:
Nikon Europe has announced the release of the AF-S NIKKOR 24mm F/1.4G ED, the best-in-class ultra-fast wide-angle lens. Aimed at professional reportage and landscape photography, this new product uses Nikon's revolutionary optical system, specifically designed for the best FX-format DSLRs.
New NIKKOR optical system
The AF-S NIKKOR 24mm F/1.4G ED lens uses a unique optical design that delivers higher image quality, minimal distortion and excellent edge and corner sharpness, especially at large apertures. The new optical system uses Nikon's unique Nano Crystal anti-reflective coating, ED glass, and aspherical elements to deliver bright, high-quality, high-contrast images with minimal distortion and aberration. An aperture of f/1.4 and a nine-bladed aperture provide the unique bokeh that has become a hallmark of NIKKOR lenses.
Quiet and reliable
The new lens uses a silent ultrasonic motor to ensure smooth and quiet autofocus operation. Magnesium is used to increase the strength of the lens, and in case of bad weather it is equipped with a dust and water protection system, including directly around the mount. The AF-S NIKKOR 24mm F/1.4G ED lens comes with a dedicated HB-51 lens hood with a secure mounting mechanism and a soft case. The start of the sale is scheduled for March 16, 2010.
