Depending on the delivery, the router may be called AC12G or AC1200G.

One of the most affordable dual-band wireless routers (routers) of the AC1200 class with a high-speed Wi-Fi module and Gigabit Ethernet cable network ports. The most important difference between this model and classmate routers is its very democratic cost, which, combined with full functionality, makes this device one of the most tempting options for choosing a router for an apartment, small house or small office (up to three stationary PCs).

It is positioned as an affordable product of the middle price category, focused on creating an inexpensive but performant network infrastructure with a gigabit WAN connection to the provider's network. The Mercusys AC12G router is based on the latest hardware platform capable of supporting 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wireless connections in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands with 2x2 MIMO technology.

The maximum connection speed is 300 and 876 Mbps. The performance of the device is quite enough to receive 4K streaming video, comfortable network gaming in multiplayer modes, operational cloud services, IPTV viewing and other tasks that require the rapid passage of significant traffic flows. Four non-removable external antennas provide an impressive area of Wi-Fi coverage. To form a local cable network, there are three Gigabit Ethernet LAN connectors for connecting desktop PCs and NAS servers.

One of the most affordable options in the 1 GB + 2 range class

The young Chinese brand Mercusys recently entered the east european market of network equipment and was remembered by many by the interesting Mercusys AC12 model, which has become one of the most affordable dual-band routers on the market. His only problem was ports with a limit of 100 Mbps. The company heard the buyers and in 2019 released an updated version of the Mercusys AC12G with full gigabit ports. It is about him that we will talk today.

Class AC1200

The Mercusys AC12G belongs to the AC1200 class when four external antennas are used for stable coverage: a pair for the 2.4GHz band and a pair for the 5GHz band. In the first case, we have a throughput of 300 Mbps, in the 5 GHz band the speed rises to 867 Mbps, which gives a total theoretical Wi-Fi throughput of about 1200 Mbps. In actual use of Wi-Fi, you can count on 150 – 160 Mbps on a 2.4 GHz network and up to 600 Mbps on a 5 GHz network. In the second case, the quality of the signal and coverage was almost perfect, but at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, the signal occasionally sagged and even got lost.

Nothing extra

There are no additional perks here. No beamforming, no USB ports, no MU-MIMO or built-in VPN. Everyone was put under the knife to keep the price at the level of the previous model. But it looks great and sets up quickly. Therefore, we can recommend Mercusys AC12G first of all to those users who need a simple and inexpensive router that can work in two bands and uses the full power of a gigabit connection.
