Spektor is a new line of entry-level speakers that Danish manufacturer Dali is pushing the wedges with for a young audience not ready to give a kidney for good sound. And they have something to offer, because they use many of the best practices from more expensive models like a “thoroughbred” crossover and speakers of their own production from wood pulp.

Thoroughbred appearance

The desire of acoustics to meet higher standards immediately catches the eye. For example, the lateral curvature of the front panel cleverly masks the fact that the speaker is decorated with vinyl film, and not made of solid wood. The front shield is deftly trimmed "under the skin", although it is ordinary plastic. And the tweeter in the reflex horn seemed to have accidentally got here from acoustics for a couple of thousand dollars.

However the compliments on appearance are more related to the model with walnut coloring, while the spirit of Chinese columns elusively hovers over the pure black version.

Signature Dali speakers

The Spektor Vokal has a classic front with a pair of woofers and a tweeter in between. The fabric dome tweeter is mounted on a chassis that acts as a sound guide. This design, coupled with light weight, has reduced distortion and extended the frequency range. Translated into human, this means that the sound will be more collected and homogeneous.

As for the woofers/midrange speakers, Spektor inherited them from the older Dali models: the speakers are made of cellulose reinforced with finely split wood fibers. Due to the structural heterogeneity of such an unusual material, this allows the drivers to avoid parasitic membrane resonances.

"Thoroughbred" crossover

With a finely tuned crossover filter, the Spektor Vokal meticulously reproduces every mid-range harmonic and every micro-dynamic nuance. This is very, very important for clear dialogue reproduction. A certain softness is felt throughout the entire range of sound, and the sound does not lose balance even with sudden changes in dynamics.

In general, although the Spektor Vokal lags behind Dali flagship models like the Opticon or Rubicon, this lag no longer feels like an abyss.
