Yamaha musical equipment has long been a global market leader in sound, reliability and functionality. The NS-SW050 subwoofer is no exception. The model is offered in the low-cost price segment up to $200 and has been popular for many years.

Conciseness in everything

The subwoofer is available in a durable MDF cabinet in three colour options: black, white and walnut. The compact dimensions of 34x29x29 cm and light weight of 8.5 kg make it easy to carry the system and install it in small spaces, such as an office or bedroom.

The speaker is protected by a neat, slightly domed fabric grille. The curves of the grille and the company logo are the only decoration of the speaker, otherwise the look is minimalistic and restrained.

Technology on guard of sound

Despite the low power of 50 watts, the 8-inch bass driver produces clear detailed sound throughout the claimed frequency range of 28 – 200 Hz, but as the power level increases, distortions begin to be heard in the most active compositions.

Minimizing them is Advanced YST 2 (Yamaha Active Servo Technology), which uses a negative impedance and constant current mechanism to increase bass stability and accuracy, as well as Twisted Flare Port technology, implemented in the bass reflex horn, to reduce extraneous noise and more realistic sound.

Nuances of connection and settings

The sub is connected only via LFE, so it's worth checking if your receiver or amplifier has the appropriate output, and only power control is available from the settings. Minimal, but quite functional set.

Yamaha NS-SW050 is not very expressive, but reliable sub for the money. It will surely last for many years, delighting with the realistic sound of your favorite music and movies.
