With AMD's transition to the new AM5 platform, prices for previous generation processors have become very attractive. For example, the popular six-core Ryzen 5 3600 is now available for around 75 euros. However, for a budget gaming PC, we recommend adding a little and choosing the more powerful and modern Ryzen 5 5500.
Zen 3 architecture
The Ryzen 5 5500 is an affordable six-core Zen 3 processor with multi-threading, a maximum frequency of 4.2 GHz and support for DDR-3200 memory. This processor has good temperature characteristics and does not require powerful cooling; the standard cooler included is sufficient.
At the time of release, the main competitor of the Ryzen 5 5500 was the six-core Core i5-12400, which showed 30-50% better performance in synthetic and gaming tests. But over the years, the price of the Core i5-12400 has increased significantly, and it now costs almost twice as much, making it less attractive for budget builds. In addition, an AM4 motherboard from AMD will cost less than a similar Intel platform.
