High speed. 5 years warranty.

High-performance internal 3.5″ form-factor hard disk drive from the family of high-speed consumer HDDs, WD Caviar Black 2014. This lineup includes models with capacities ranging from 500 GB to 2 TB, which are optimized for resource-intensive tasks. It is positioned as a mid-range product, designed for use in high-performance multi-purpose and gaming systems. Ideal for workstations dealing with creating/editing digital content.

Suitable for computer game enthusiasts and those who prefer to assemble PCs themselves. The WD Caviar Black WD1003FZEX hard drive can be used as a system drive, work within RAID arrays of level 0/1, or in combination with an even more powerful SSD. The 1 TB capacity is adequate for storing moderate amounts of SD/HD/UHD-resolution media content, game installations, and work project files.

Equipped with a dual-core controller working in tandem with 64 MB cache memory. As in other models of the WD Caviar Black family, this drive uses StableTrac technology, which involves enhanced shaft anchoring to reduce the influence of vibration created by other system components. Additional stabilization of the plates ensures more precise head positioning during reading/writing, which further increases performance.

Model overview based on user reviews
The WD Black 3.5" Gaming Hard Drive is generally praised for its speed, reliability, and long warranty period. Many users appreciate its fast performance, especially for gaming and handling large files, with some noting it is quieter and cooler compared to previous models. However, there are mixed reviews regarding its durability, with several users experiencing early failures or defects, such as bad sectors or mechanical issues, despite the 5-year warranty. The drive's vibration and noise are also mentioned, though some users have mitigated this with anti-vibration mounts. Overall, while the drive is considered a solid choice for performance, potential buyers are advised to be cautious of possible defects and ensure regular data backups.

I bought the wonderful WD Black 2 TB WD 2002FAEX. When I picked it up at the post office, the packaging was great, they even included a sturdy bag in the package for easy carrying, but afterward, things weren't so bright. The WD didn't last even a week. During the OS installation, it froze halfway through, and the only way to revive the computer was by cutting the power. After rebooting, the disk wasn't recognized anywhere. I sent it for servicing. After 20 days, the verdict was mechanical damage. According to their theory, I dropped the computer during the OS installation, damaging the hard drive. No warranty covered. That's the response to a 60-month warranty. I was tempted by cheap goods. I should have bought a more expensive one from Koba. I bought an external WD Live drive there. After 20 months of use, it died. They replaced it with a new one without any hassle. Maybe this model is just too complex. When I read about it, I was amazed, wondering if they really made such a thing. In reality, it turned out much worse, one week of work. Learn from my experience. Alexey from Yalta.

Draw your own conclusions. And don't forget about data backup! ;)
11 April 2021
This review will serve more as a warning about how important data backup is in the era of continuous growth of manufacturing defects. So, the hard drive died after 2 months. The temperatures were low—usually up to 32°C. It was not subjected to overloads. Heaven forbid!! It was constantly monitored. It did not make any strange noises. Overall, absolutely no warning signs. The drive's death was sudden and would have caught me off guard if I hadn't taken care of data backup. The drive froze during file deletion, "disconnected," and wouldn't start again.
Handles writing small files quite quickly. Dynamic caching, 256 MB cache, all that stuff. Even when working with a large number of bulky files, it works faster than the vast majority of hard drives.
Operating time — 2 months.

Got a defective product, bought on Ozon, it was launched 5 times out of the box, worked for 1 hour, Crystal Disk immediately showed bad sectors as soon as I started uploading files.

new king

Since the 10,000 RPM WD Velociraptor has been phased out, the fastest hard drive on the market is the WD Black. Its rotation speed is the usual 7200 rpm, but at the same time the sequential read and write speed is as much as 210 MB / s.

high density

The record speed is achieved thanks to the high density of data storage. Inside the one-terabyte version of WD Black there is only one magnetic plate (in the common people, “pancake”) and one writing head. That is, all information is recorded on one side of the plate, which happens as quickly as possible. That is why the WD Black versions of a larger volume, which means with numerous "pancakes" and heads, work more slowly — less than 200 MB / s, which is still a lot compared to other models.

Expensive pleasure

Not everyone needs WD Black, because it costs twice as much as conventional 3.5-inch HDDs, which are only 20 percent slower than it. Its target audience is avid gamers (especially stair-players and streamers), as well as video editors. Both the first and the second need the maximum speed of reading and writing large amounts of data that do not fit on the SSD.
