Koss UR40 - Headphones - full size - wired - 3.5 mm jack 165466

The UR40 delivers digital quality sound in an ultra-lightweight design for listeners on-the-go. The UR40 features dynamic elements for a wide frequency response from 15-22,000 Hz. A 2 mil titanium coating on its diaphragms increases the rigidity of the elements, minimizing mechanical distortion and ensuring exceedingly accurate sound reproduction.... moreComputer-optimized neodymium iron boron rare earth magnet structures enable the UR40 to deliver greater volume, even with low-voltage portable devices. Oxygen-free copper voice coils improve signal transmission and conduction for cleaner, clearer sound. With its hybrid design, the UR40 combines the best of closed-style and open-style headphones. Closed leatherette earcushions form a light seal around the ears, enhancing bass frequencies. Screened earcups provide an open, hear-through sound that lets listeners stay in touch with the world around them. The result is a full frequency, clean sound that turns any recording into a "live" performance. At just over six ounces the UR40 wears comfortably even after hours of continuous listening. The airy mesh sling provides soft breathable support, ideal for those with touch-sensitive scalps. An adjustable headband accommodates all head shapes and sizes for maximum comfort. When it is not in use, the resilient and lightweight frame folds it into a compact configuration that's protective, easy to carry and convenient to store. Features a 4 ft cable and gold plated connector Ear-cup design provides optimum comfort and noise isolation Indulge yourself in quality stereo sound mode Hear every detail crisp and clear with a frequency response of 15 Hz-22 kHz

Model overview based on user reviews
The Koss UR40 headphones are praised for their excellent sound quality and lightweight, comfortable design, making them easy to wear for extended periods. Users appreciate the foldable design, which enhances portability. The sound is described as clear with deep bass, although some note that the bass can be a bit blurry and high frequencies may sound blurred. A common concern is the flimsy and short cord, which many users have had to replace. Despite these issues, the headphones are considered great value for money, especially for those who use them in quieter environments due to their open design. Overall, the Koss UR40 is recommended for its comfort and sound quality, though potential buyers should be aware of the cord's durability.

Good for their money
10 February 2010
Overall, I'm pleased with the headphones: foldable design and excellent sound. But a very small cord. Maybe it's worth buying an extension cord for them.
Very good sound for such little money. Lightweight, put them on and just forget that they are on your head. Pleasant, unloaded bass, high frequencies are generally gorgeous. They add up in no time. Overall the sound quality is very decent and worth the money.
Very flimsy cord. You can just see by eye that the UR 20 is much more reliable. And the paint is rather weak, it peels off over time. Koss, as always, saves on materials. The cord is still too small. They have a 1.2 meter cord - very short! My previous ones were twice as large (2.4 m).

Very pleased, high-quality model for relatively little money.

I REALLY wanted to buy these headphones and finally I got them. The headphones are very light, do not press on the head. Good surround, non-overloaded bass, all effects are heard very well, and overall the sound quality is excellent. When you listen to music in them, you feel comfortable, you simply forget that they are on your head.
Weight, portability, sound quality and build quality. Very comfortable headphones.
The cord is a bit short, and the diameter of the cord is somewhere around 2 - 3mm, but I would like it to be larger.

Take it, you won't regret it!

I’ve been using it for almost 10 years now, and no problems, despite the thin (but high-quality) wire.
Very comfortable and lightweight headphones with high-quality sound

Lightweight and comfortable headphones

The Koss UR40 is a full-cup open style headphone. The feature of the headphones lies in the folding design: the headband arms fold together with the cup mounts, and the overall size of the headphones is reduced by half. Together with a light weight of 175 g, this makes them very easy to carry. And thanks to the comfortable headboard mesh and high-quality leatherette ear cushions from Koss UR40, your head does not get tired. Unless, of course, you try to listen to the discography of Gucci Mane in one sitting. The only complaint we have is the cord — for this class of headphones, it is quite thin and short.

Atypical Koss sound

The sound of the UR40 is quite original and somewhat unusual for Koss. Usually, the company is famous for its driving and assertive sound with an emphasis on bass. Here, the sound is somehow lighter and more airy, with unexpectedly soft and low frequencies, thanks to which the overall picture sounds more balanced. But the high frequencies are recouped a little strange, they are in abundance, but they sound somehow blurred. But the sound has excellent positioning in space, so that each instrument can be easily distinguished in the overall ensemble.

listen in silence

However, it is important to remember that thanks to the open cups, external sounds easily mix with the music, which makes you want to turn it up louder. However, at a volume close to 90%, the membrane begins to choke, and almost nothing remains of the former beauty of the sound. Therefore, the perfect place to operate the Koss UR40 will be where there is not a lot of external noise. Otherwise, these are excellent and relatively inexpensive headphones that win back every penny. And they cost just under $50.
