— a precious stone second in value only to diamonds, emeralds and other similar materials. The most interesting feature of alexandrite is pleochroism — a change in colour with changes in lighting. Even when rotated relative to the eye, the visible colour of such a stone can change from red or purple to dark green and back. In addition, the shade of alexandrite also depends on the type of lighting — in daylight, the stone is painted in colder colours, in the evening or artificial — in warmer ones.
