It uses a cable with RCA connectors (“tulips”) for signal transmission, however, it is not compatible with line inputs, because the signal is transmitted in digital format (rather than analogue), and reinforced shielding is very desirable for the cable. The S/PDIF standard allows multi-channel audio to be transmitted over a single wire.
