The key advantages of plastic housings are low cost and light weight. In terms of strength, they are inferior to metal ones, but this point becomes important only in the event of strong impacts and other “accidents”; For normal household use, it is not important. But plastic is not suitable for internal installation for a number of reasons; therefore it is found exclusively in external format drive cases, including docking stations (see "Type").
