Chairs with skids
— the basis in the form of horizontal skids. The base directly in contact with the floor in such models usually has a U-shape, and the seat is connected to the base by two vertical posts in the front — because of this, it seems that the back of the chair actually hangs in the air, without leaning on anything. . The horizontal position of the seat in such models is supported by the rigidity of the frame. Thanks to this arrangement, the chairs have an unusual appearance, and the space under the seat turns out to be open on three sides — this comes in handy in cramped conditions. On the other hand, such bases are somewhat less reliable than classic legs.
Occasionally there is another option — skids on the sides of the base (in fact, the same legs, only connected in pairs at the bottom). Such designs are quite durable, but they do not have any special advantages over classic legs, so they are not widely used.
