— mounting the luminaire on the ceiling (with the exception of hanging — this option is considered a separate type of mounting, for more details see the relevant paragraph). It is found in all types of lighting fixtures, except for sconces (see "Type").

The main advantage of this type of luminaires is that they provide all-round illumination — sometimes with some irregularities due to the characteristics of the ceiling, but these irregularities are most often almost imperceptible. Often this is an perfect option for organizing the main light. On the other hand, this arrangement also has a number of disadvantages. So, the installation itself is quite complicated and time-consuming, and if the lamp is attached to the main ceiling, then there are nuances with the choice of installation location: you either have to use a nest prepared in advance during construction, or, in addition to everything, additional work on seat preparation. However the socket for the ceiling lamp, if any, is usually located in the optimal place — for example, in the centre of the living room; however, in some situations it may be necessary to install it at a different point on the ceiling, and not every room has sockets for light sources. In addition, access to the fixture for cleaning, changing light bulbs, and other maintenance is often hindered by the height of the ceiling. And the switch inevitably has to be taken out separately, which also requires installation work (an alternative may be a switch with a cord or chain located on the lamp body itself, however, such devices are extremely rare in ceiling models).
