Backpacks with top pocket
— a pocket at the top of the backpack, often located on the top flap (if any). Convenient for transporting small things that do not make sense to put in the main compartment, or that you need to always have at hand; it can be a map with a compass, a couple of sandwiches for a camping lunch, a first aid kit, etc. Note that of all the external pockets, it is the top one that is best suited for fragile items — during normal use of the backpack, it experiences the least bumps and shocks.
