The reel, usually, is equipped with a spring for automatic rewinding of the tape measure, as well as a stopper for securing the tape in the unfolded position. The length of the tape itself in most cases does not exceed 5 m — for most tasks this is quite enough, and a longer length would noticeably affect the dimensions and weight of the entire tool.
