Splitting axes

— axes, originally designed for splitting logs — including quite large and hard ones. The cleaver has a thick and massive wedge-shaped blade with a relatively short cutting edge; such a blade effectively enters between the wood fibers and "pushes" them to a great distance, allowing you to easily split the wood. In addition, most of these axes are equipped with long handles — from 70 cm or more; although there are also rather small models, about 40 cm long or even less, their key difference from universal axes is the mentioned blade shape. Note that for any other tasks, except for chopping firewood, such axes are poorly suited; even cutting down a tree with a cleaver is not easy, because. a thick blade is not well suited for cutting across the grain.
