— taps in which the spout supports several modes of operation — at least two, and in some models more.

Almost all devices with this feature are kitchen (see "Purpose"); and the general meaning of the adjustment is to optimally adjust the flow of water to the particular situation. For example, for washing greens and other delicate products, gentle processing is desirable, and for removing dried-on dirt from dishes, an intense jet of water is better.
