Pepperpots

— pepper shakers of a traditional design are vessels with holes in the upper part, through which ground pepper can be poured when turned over. By design, such models do not differ from salt shakers (see the relevant paragraph), and the most striking difference between these two types, encountered in fact, is the number of holes or markings. For example, a pepper shaker may have fewer holes than a similar salt shaker, given that pepper, unlike salt, rarely has to be added in large quantities. In other cases, the holes on the top of the salt shaker may form the letter S (salt), and on a similar pepper shaker — P (pepper). At the same time, it is technically quite possible to “charge” pepper under the letter S and salt under the letter P — this, of course, can confuse the user, but it's ok to use the device for its intended purpose.

Of the seventy-eight pieces known today, the British Museum's collection of sixty-seven is one of its most popular attractions. - Pepper shaker featuring a bishop design from Lewis chess pieces - Adds …
