— dishes made of crystal — a special type of glass with a high content of certain metals in the composition (in particular, barium and lead). Such glass turns out to be very transparent and refracts light more strongly than usual, due to which a beautiful, “rainbow” play of colours is obtained on the edges. In addition, crystal rings very melodiously, and dishes made of it, even with thin walls, have a rather large weight, which gives it an impression of solidity. Among the shortcomings of crystal, in addition to high cost, one can note fragility, sensitivity to high temperatures and temperature extremes, as well as the need for regular care: ideally, such dishes should be wiped once a month with special means.
